Neil Fernandes
Back in the late 1970s, I was a member of Perth's first punk band, The Cheap Nasties.
After a short while, Kim Salmon, the founding member, left to form The Scientists, and has since gone on to much acclaim with other notable bands, and as a solo performer.
I continued with the remaining members as The Manikins, with my old school friend, Dave Faulkner, joining for a while in 1980.
Dave left and went on to form the Hoodoo Gurus, one of Australia's best known and loved bands.
The Manikins regrouped with a different sound and lineup for a short while, before I left in mid 1981. (The band continued under a vastly different guise for many years)
During our brief existence ('78-'81), the Manikins released three singles, and a cassette tape, Live Locally. There have been several retrospective releases since.
Life intervened for the next 40 years or so....family, and a career outside music.
Over the last few years, I've resumed my first love: songwriting. These days, I play, write, record, and release music almost every day.
I'll keep doing that until....
